CHECK OUT THE INTERVIEW IN ENGLISH VERSION
Rajiv Shah (Run The Tide's screenwriter) talks a little more about Taylor
Lautner and his film in an exclusive interview to Taylor Mania Mania:
How did you start your career?
Run the Tide is my first screenplay so really, my career
is starting there. I came to writing through acting. I'd been an actor for many
years and decided to write a screenplay that I believed actors would want to
perform in. I was just out of college and feeling pretty stuck in my life and
career because I was putting my career aspirations off to help with family
obligations. I needed to do it but, at the time, felt like the thing I loved
most was also what was keeping me from progressing in my adult life. In
retrospect it was the best thing that could have happened to me because that
period of my life and those feelings became the genesis of Run the Tide. And
through that, I found that I really love to write.
How did you feel about working on “Run The Tide”?
It's a dream come true really. When I first started
writing it, I never intended to sell it or have it do any of the wonderful
things that have happened. At the time, I knew it was a character driven,
heartfelt, and emotional movie that ultimately I wanted to shoot quietly with
some friends. Maybe go to some film festivals and use it as an experience to
get better for my next film. I couldn't have imagined that it would turn out
the way it has. I think it really hit me when I walked on set that first day. I
got to see what had been in my mind for so long finally coming to life. There
was this incredibly talented and experienced crew realizing the material, a
great cast making the roles their own, and of course, Taylor Lautner playing
the lead role of Rey. It was surreal in the best way possible. I'm incredibly
thankful and grateful that so many wonderful people got behind the story and
made it a reality.
What can we expect from “Run The Tide”?
Well, you'll have to see it to find out! But
seriously, I think you can expect an emotional ride. Run the Tide is a drama
about a very broken and unconventional family that are trying to find ways to
heal and move on.
How is your relationship with Taylor Lautner? What do
you think about him?
Taylor is really great in the film and we were lucky
to have him. He was talented, professional, and incredibly athletic! I didn't
realize how much until we were on set. There are a couple of scenes that
involve baseball and he can really play well. I'm definitely a Taylor Lautner
fan.
What is your biggest dream?
In a lot of ways it's already come true! But that
being said, I'm always looking to keep pushing myself and keep telling human
stories about people on the fringes and about challenging relationships. I love
storytellers like Ang Lee, Francis Ford Coppola, and James Gray. I've got a
long way to go but I really admire their work. I guess my next dream is a
project I'm currently working on about Hawaii called 808. It's about the bonds
between a father and son being tested by the brutal gang and drug subcultures
that make up the underbelly of Hawaii. People perceive Hawaii as a paradise,
but often for the people who grew up there and are from there, it can be
anything but. 808 takes a look at that little seen side of the islands. My next
big dream would be to have that movie get made.
Have you ever heard of Brazil? Have you ever thought
about coming here?
I love Brazil! I actually went to Sao Paulo and Rio de
Janeiro some years back. People were really friendly and I had a great time. I
never made it to the Amazon though so I'd like to come back and do that
someday. However, as with any destination you visit for a short time, what you
get as a tourist is always just scratching the surface of the identity of that
place. Brazil has so many more facets that I'd like to explore, especially from
a local perspective. I just need a local tour guide to help me do that!
